Personal Inquiry Topic

I would like to do my inquiry on the Holocaust. My sister visitied Auschwitz while she was in college. She came home with pictures and statistics about the camp. I have been fascinated by this subject since her return and would like to learn more about this historic period in time. I hope to find information on important events during the Holocaust including, "kristallnact", ghettos, concentration and death camps, personal experiences, and finally liberation day.

I hope throughout the course of this blog to share the information I find.

  1. You've got a great topic selected. Be sure to go back and write a little about all the other topics you considered before choosing this one.

  2. Megan,

I,too, have always been fascinated by the Holocaust. I have been to the D.C. Holocaust Museum several times as well as the C.A.N.D.L.E.S. museum in Terre Haute, IN. The museum in Terre Haute was established by a survivor of Dr. Mengle's twin experiences and is dedicated to her twin sister. You might want to check out the sight. Last school year, she was willing to do a conference call with my 6th graders and field questions when we concluded our Holocaust unit. Shelly

  3. Over the summer, I also went to the D.C. Holocaust museum. I was telling my dad about the trip after arriving back home, and he recounted an episode from our past. He is retired Air Force and we were stationed in Germany in the 60s. He told me of the time we visited a concentration camp. I was a toddler at the time. A couple of things that moved me were 1.) the fact that my dad was crying as he recounted the excursion, and 2.) when I realized that it had been a mere twenty years prior to that visit that the horror occurred. I think it is our duty as human beings to keep this unthinkable series of events alive so that they never happen again. I would definitely recommend visiting the museum, if you ever get the chance. Their website is http://www.ushmm.org/. I look forward to following your journey.
